Social Media is a powerful thing, especially when it comes to the image of one’s brand.  Believe it or not each one of the world’s Twitter users is a brand, in their own certain way.

Twitter is a great tool for getting the word out about your business and establishing yourself as a credible source in your niche.

When using Twitter you have to make sure your using it effectively, actively communicating, and of course following everybody back who follows you. Do not be a jackass and think your better than everyone by not following them back. Having a large follower count does not make you any better than anyone else.

Use these 3 tips, and your bound for success in the world of Twitter:

1. Do not follow people or post Tweets until you have completed your bio and posted your photo. Nothing bugs Twitter users more than not being able to find out a bit about who is following them.  In order to be credible on Twitter you must have your bio and photo available so take the time right away to get a photo uploaded and your 160 character bio completed.

2. Your bio is something you can freely play with. As you get more familiar with Twitter and the various communities you want to connect with it’s totally normal to change words, focus on different aspects of your business and it’s totally normal to put a personal thing or two in your bio too (like loves food, wine, travel, etc.) Focus on good keywords for Search Engine Optimization in your bio. Since you only have 160 characters, make every one count!

3. Start making lists using the “LIST” feature right from the start regarding people and topics you are interested in. Once you get a sizeable amount of followers it’s really difficult to go back and start putting them on various lists! Depending on your business, you may want to follow the current “gurus” in your profession and put them into a list so you can easily see that they are saying.
