EGYPT: Researchers have found the unexpected today after digging through the ‘Valley of the Kings’ according to officials. Officials say they’ve discovered a 1,100 mask that belonged to un-named singer from the 22nd dynasty.
They’ve confirmed that this is the only known to man tomb of a woman that isn’t actually related to the ancient Egyptian royal families ever found in the area (Luxor).
The Valley of the Kings in Luxor is a major tourist attraction. In 1922, archaeologists there unearthed the gold funeral mask of Tutankhamun and other stunning items in the tomb of the king who ruled more than 3,000 years ago.
Mr Boraiq (Top government official) also revealed that upon inspecting the tomb he discovered it was remarkably intact.
He said that when the coffin is opened this week, Egyptian and Swiss archaeologists will likely find a mummy and a cartonnage mask molded to her face and made from layers of linen and plaster.
The singer’s name, Nehmes Bastet, means she was believed to be protected by the feline deity Bastet.
The unearthing of this tomb marks the 64th tomb to be discovered this century.
When we’re allowed to publish photographs of the mask we will do so
