Twitter to begin censoring tweets: effective immediately
Social networking giant Twitter.com has officially announced that it will begin censoring user’s tweets in compliance with country regulations of foreign territories or as they say ‘places they can’t exist’.
The move comes just days after the big SOPA blackout that took out sites like Wikipedia.org, Reddit.com, and the Cheezburger network. It’s quite unbelievable that Twitter has decided to do this, after being dead force against the SOPA/PIPA bills.
The company’s official statement read this:
“As we continue to grow internationally, we will enter countries that have different ideas about the contours of freedom of expression,” the post read. “Some differ so much from our ideas that we will not be able to exist there. Others are similar, but for historical or cultural reasons, restrict certain types of content, such as France or Germany, which ban pro-Nazi comment.”
