Record: 100 tornadoes in 24 hours, was there enough notice?
WOODWARD, OKLA: This weekend marked a long winded bevy of storms that struck the Midwest and the plain states surrounding it. More than a recorded 100 tornadoes hit over the weekend, whipping cars around, battering homes, and sending families running for their basements — but even in this case of danger relatively few were injured or killed.
Days ahead of the storm(s) the national weather service initiated a warning allowing people in the Midwest to be well aware of the fact that they were about to be pummeled by storms, was it enough? Actually, it was more than enough.
Authorities across 5 of the worst hit states have reported that there have been close to no fatalities across the most affected areas minus the 5 that were reported in Wichita Kansas.
