LONDON, ENGLAND: It all started with a mere smile at the starting line, and then va-voom Oscar Pistorius of South Africa darted off racing ahead of the rest of the competitors.

Little did he know, he’d make history that very moment. Pistorius this evening, became the first amputee to compete in a track competition at any one Olympic game in history.

”I’ve worked for six years … to get my chance,” said the South African, who finished second and advanced to Sunday night’s semifinals. ”I found myself smiling in the starting block. Which is very rare in the 400 meters.”
