Fears that Syria may shut down internet spike
This week in Syria, rebels continued their joust to take control of the country forever attempting to oust Bashar Al-Assad however a disturbing and alarming text sent out by militia officials via the Syrian army has struck a chord with rebels that just doesn’t sit very well.
“The government was sending a message to the rebels through people who subscribe,” says Taufiq Rahim, a Dubai-based Arab affairs analyst — an act of psychological warfare carried out by cell phone.
Rebels revealed that the text was sent only to mobile subscribers, through the web, and even mobile based data services — the strange catch? Pre-paid subscribers did not receive the message that said only ‘Game Over’
