Officials ‘Driving into Manhattan? Must have 2 passengers, including self in car’
Manhattan, New York: According to NYC officials, a temporary rule to avoid gridlock has been put into place at least until midnight tomorrow evening. Officials tell Daily News, that passengers entering Manhattan through East River, the Henry Hudson Bridge, the Triboro Bridge, and the Lincoln Tunnel, must have at least three people in the car [two passengers, and self].
“I know it is inconvenient for a lot of people,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “But the bottom line is the streets can only handle so much.” The mayor suggested that drivers might be able to pick up pedestrians standing by bridges. When a reporter asked what penalty scofflaws would face, Bloomberg responded, “Everybody’s going to be driving by and honking at you, I assume,” reports the New York Times.
