John Stamos is officially channeling his gayness… I mean gaydar
In surprising Stamos fashion, all was hilariously discussed in a new conference-call interview with reporters. (See full interview here).
ON HOW HE GOT THE NEW NORMAL GIG | “It was presented to me like, ‘Hey John, you’re doing this’ from Ryan [Murphy]. And I’m like, ‘Okay great, what am I doing?’ Ryan is sort of the modern-day Sinatra. Remember when Sinatra used to call Sammy Davis — and I’m not comparing myself to them — or Dean Martin and say, ‘Oh by the way, you’re doing this show on this night.’ And they would go, ‘Okay, what time do we get there?’ That’s sort of what Ryan is, and he’s always been so good to me.
ON WORKING WITH ELLEN BARKIN | “When Ellen and I started working together it was just this great chemistry. I think it was sort of set up where I would come on and do one, see if I liked them and they liked me, and then all of a sudden we did this great first episode and they were like, let’s do a bunch more. And I was like, I’m free, let’s do it! And working with her has been…you know, it’s been the most interesting relationship. I sort of always wanted to play — she’s not that much older than me — but I wanted to play that sort of relationship, what do you call it? Spring, April, May, June…you know, just a tiny bit older than me. And there’s something fantastic when I look in her eyes. We just get great stuff.”
ON WHETHER HE’S EVER BEEN MISTAKEN FOR A GAY MAN | “There are no stereotypes anymore and I’m the perfect example. I grew up in musical theater, I grew up playing with puppets, and I liked magic. I liked all of the arts and I liked musical theater — and I loved doing makeup. Halloween was my favorite time of the year and I was quite good. I was a good makeup artist! And a lot of the musicals I tried out for — I mean, I was a sh—- singer. Later in life I got a little better, but because I wanted to be in musicals so bad I studied singing. And it’s not my favorite thing to do but I can sort of get through a song if it’s in a musical theater setting because I can play the character. But I mean, yes, I even think my father at some point thought, ‘Well, okay…who cares?’ So yeah, I have been mistaken [for a gay man].”
ON HOW HE MANAGES TO STAY FOREVER YOUNG | “I live in a box. Like with no Oxygen, like Michael Jackson. [laughs] Truthfully, I’m very flattered when people say that but you have to be careful to not play into it when people say that because then you get this Peter Pan syndrome like, ‘Great, I’m 30 I can do anything,’ when you’re not. You know what I do probably the most? If there’s any secret, I sleep a lot. I get a lot of sleep.”
