Blizzard pummels North East U.S
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: A strong blizzard pummeled the Northeastern United States today, following week-long reports that the storm itself could drop up to 3 1/2 feet of snow on the region. Officials in states like New York, have already ordered several roads to be closed as residents fear they may become stranded.
A sledding championship race for Saturday in Maine, has been postponed due to worries by officials that the race wouldn’t be able to be completed due to heavy snowfall.
In three states as of 1:18p.m, bans on driving have been issued. Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island have all issued the bans.
The rate of snowfall and reduced visibility during the evening rush hour in particular will make safe travel nearly impossible,” Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick told reporters.
