How to Start Your Wavy and Curly Hair Journey?

You’ve probably been told that curly hair is hard to manage. That’s certainly true if you’re starting. But if you’re looking for a new way of styling your curls, plenty of curly hair frizz control products and techniques can help keep your frizz! Here’s how I’ve gotten my wavy and curly hair to look its best:

How Does Hair Become Wavy And Curly?

Hair is made up of proteins, keratin. Keratin is a protein that makes up your hair, and its sole purpose is to protect it from damage. It also helps hold moisture in the air to be healthy and strong. The more you wash your hair, the more damaged it becomes, as the water-depleted condition does not allow for healthy growth. Therefore, washing too often will cause split ends or breakage due to dryness.

The main components of curly/wavy hair are:

  • Keratin – responsible for strength and elasticity. It is also responsible for keeping curls tight together when wet (like when wet). If there isn’t enough keratin present during an individual’s life cycle, then they will likely lose the curl pattern as well as baldness;

Figure Out Your Hair Type.

Knowing your hair type is the most crucial step in determining what products work best for your curls. You can use this information to find the right products for you, as well as get an understanding of how they interact with each other.

When it comes down to it, curly hair has more waves than straight hair. It is because more individual strands move and interact with each other when they’re styled differently. Also, if a product doesn’t suit one part of your head (like tight coils), it won’t work well in another domain. So knowing where those differences lie will help you choose products accordingly.

For instance, if your hair type is quite frizzy, you should buy the proper curly hair frizz control. Using these products will eliminate a lot of frizz and roughness in your curly hair.

Get A Proper Haircut.

There are many different types of curly and wavy hair, so it’s essential to find someone who knows how to cut them. Your stylist should be able to explain the different types of curls and waves that you have. Moreover, they should understand what each type needs to look healthy, bouncy, and full of life.

So, getting the proper haircut should be added to your curly hair journey. But, first, it is good to go to a professional hair stylist who is good at doing it.

Find Products That Work For You.

You’ll need to know a few things about yourself to find the best products for your hair.

  • Knowing Your Hair Type

It is the first step in finding products that will work for you. If you have curly or wavy hair, a few different types of curls can be found within this category. For instance, it includes coily (coils), ringlets and spirals. Depending on how much moisture is present in each strand, you may also have waves or curls within this group.

  • Knowing Your Curl Pattern

Another critical factor is to know your curl pattern. It determines how specific shampoos and conditioners will work on your strands. Moreover, it also tells what kind of styling tools should be used when styling them out at home or on vacation!

Once you know your hair type and curl pattern, you should select the best hair pick for curly hair.

Take Proper Care Of Your Curls.

Curly hair is beautiful. However, it can be frustrating if you do not care for them. It is always good to take care of your hair correctly. So, how can you do it? It would be best if you started using the right hair care products. Here are some products you should add to your hair care regimen.

  • Use A Conditioner.

Your curls are on the dry side if you’re like me. Using a good conditioner can help protect them from damage and breakage.

  • Use a Heat Protectant.

Heat styling tools, blow dryers, and flat irons can all cause damage to curly hair if misused or for too long at high temperatures.

  • Use A Detangling Spray.

Before washing your hair, so it doesn’t get tangled up in knots while you’re getting ready in the morning!

  • Apply Some Curl Creme (or cream)

Use the right after showering to give it some extra shine—and keep those strands soft and moisturized throughout the day! If desired, add another layer over the top once styled into place with gel products like mousse or gels, etc.

Invest in a Diffuser

A diffuser is a must-have tool for anyone who wants to create waves or curls but wants to use something other than a blow dryer. Diffusers help dry hair without causing frizz, especially if you have curly or wavy hair that tends to frizz easily.

Diffusers are also great for sensitive scalps because they don’t heat your scalp as much as an ordinary hair dryer would if you’re looking for an affordable way to try out this method of styling your locks.

Choose The Right Shampoo And Conditioner.

Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type would be best. For wavy or curly hair, you’ll want to look for shampoos that clean your locks without stripping them of their natural oils. It will help prevent breakage and keep your curls healthy and shiny all day long!

When it comes to conditioner, you’ll need something that hydrates while also helping with frizz control. If you have curly hair that tends to become dry and more prone to frizz than other curls (like mine), then look for products containing ingredients like wheat protein or honey that can help restore moisture to the strands—and even add shine if needed!

Wash Your Hair Correctly.

  • Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner to prevent buildup on your hair, which can lead to dryness, frizziness, and breakage. If you’re worried about how much soap is in your current shampoo or conditioner (which often contains soap), try a clarifying shampoo once every two weeks instead of weekly. It should help remove any buildup from styling products and leave your hair smelling clean!

Use A Cleansing Conditioner Instead Of Shampoo.

You may have seen curly hair cleanser and conditioners advertised as a “no-poo” option for curly hair, but they’re great for all hair types. They help to cleanse your scalp without stripping away the natural oils that make your curls healthy and happy.

To Use one of These Products:

  • Apply the product to wet strands using a comb or fingers, then gently massage it into your scalp with gentle motions until fully absorbed. Leave on for 2 minutes before rinsing out thoroughly with water (do not shampoo).

Use Heavy Styling Products On Wet Hair.

  • Use a lightweight product on wet hair.
  • Use a heavier product on dry hair.

Using a heavy styling product on wet hair will weigh down your curls and make them look limp and flat. But if you use too much of the same styling gel in your hair (or any other type of gel), it won’t give enough hold for curly or wavy styles like waves or spirals.

Conclusion:

Wavy and curly hair is beautiful and some of the most luxurious styles around. But you don’t need to let it get out of control! With the right curly hair frizz control products, you can have gorgeous waves and curls that stay put without looking limp or frizzy.
